Fitting wheels on a Jaguar XJ

A Jaguar XJ (1968–1973) uses a 5x120.65 or 5x108 PCD and a centre bore of 74 or 63.4 mm. Any wheel must match the vehicle's PCD exactly: there is no tolerance, unless you use a PCD adapter.

  • PCD: 5x120.65 or 5x108 required. See all vehicles with 5x120.65.
  • Centre bore: the wheel must have a centre bore of 74 mm or more. If it is larger (as with most aftermarket wheels), add a hub centric ring wheel centre bore → 74 mm.
  • Offset: the original is ET28 to ET49. Compare your future wheel with the offset calculator (your vehicle is already selected) to see how many millimetres further in or out it will sit.
  • Fixings: thread Ecrous - 1/2 - 20 UN, tightened to 75 Nm. The nuts or bolts must have the same seat (conical, spherical or flat) as the wheel.
  • Tyres: original fitment is 205/70R15, 225/65R15, 225/55R16, 235/55R17. For another size, check the diameter difference with the equivalence calculator (under 3 % recommended).

Frequently asked questions

What is the PCD of a Jaguar XJ?

A Jaguar XJ (1968–1973) can have a 5x120.65 or 5x108 PCD depending on the version: check on an original wheel.

Does a Jaguar XJ need a hub centric ring?

The centre bore (hub diameter) of a Jaguar XJ is 74 or 63.4 mm. A wheel with a larger centre bore is fitted with a hub centric ring that brings it down to the hub diameter. A wheel with a smaller centre bore cannot be fitted.

What offset (ET) for a Jaguar XJ?

The recorded original offset is ET28 to ET49 depending on the version and wheel size. A lower ET pushes the wheel outwards, a higher ET pulls it inwards: check wheel well and caliper clearance before making any change.

What tightening torque for the wheels of a Jaguar XJ?

The specified tightening torque is 75 Nm for Ecrous - 1/2 - 20 UN fixings. Tighten in a criss-cross pattern with a torque wrench and check the tightness again after about fifty kilometres.
