Fitting wheels on a Mazda MX-5

A Mazda MX-5 (1990–2005) uses a 4x100 or 5x114.3 PCD and a centre bore of 54.1 or 67.1 mm. Any wheel must match the vehicle's PCD exactly: there is no tolerance, unless you use a PCD adapter.

  • PCD: 4x100 or 5x114.3 required. See all vehicles with 4x100.
  • Centre bore: the wheel must have a centre bore of 54.1 mm or more. If it is larger (as with most aftermarket wheels), add a hub centric ring wheel centre bore → 54.1 mm.
  • Offset: the original is ET45 to ET50. Compare your future wheel with the offset calculator (your vehicle is already selected) to see how many millimetres further in or out it will sit.
  • Fixings: thread Ecrous - 12x1.50, tightened to 103 Nm. The nuts or bolts must have the same seat (conical, spherical or flat) as the wheel.
  • Tyres: original fitment is 185/60R14, 205/50R16, 195/50R16. For another size, check the diameter difference with the equivalence calculator (under 3 % recommended).

Vehicles with the same PCD and centre bore

Same 4x100 PCD and same 54.1 mm centre bore: wheels from these vehicles bolt on and centre on a Mazda MX-5 without rings. Offset, width, diameter and caliper clearance still need checking.

Will wheels from another vehicle fit your MX-5?

Choose the vehicle the wheels come from: we compare the hub, then each original wheel to the millimetre.

Frequently asked questions

What is the PCD of a Mazda MX-5?

A Mazda MX-5 (1990–2005) can have a 4x100 or 5x114.3 PCD depending on the version: check on an original wheel.

Does a Mazda MX-5 need a hub centric ring?

The centre bore (hub diameter) of a Mazda MX-5 is 54.1 or 67.1 mm. A wheel with a larger centre bore is fitted with a hub centric ring that brings it down to the hub diameter. A wheel with a smaller centre bore cannot be fitted.

What offset (ET) for a Mazda MX-5?

The recorded original offset is ET45 to ET50 depending on the version and wheel size. A lower ET pushes the wheel outwards, a higher ET pulls it inwards: check wheel well and caliper clearance before making any change.

What tightening torque for the wheels of a Mazda MX-5?

The specified tightening torque is 103 Nm for Ecrous - 12x1.50 fixings. Tighten in a criss-cross pattern with a torque wrench and check the tightness again after about fifty kilometres.

Which vehicles have the same PCD as a Mazda MX-5?

With the same PCD (4x100) and the same centre bore (54.1 mm), these include: Mazda Mazda2, Mazda 2, Mazda Demio, Mazda MX-3. Offset, width and rim diameter still need checking for each vehicle.
